My relative excitement over the news of the Orange Juice reunion (and even the excitement I may feel at an Orange Juice reunion show) is nothing compared to the joy of dancing around my room, alone, listening to this collection of pre-You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever sides. Theoretically, you could play this compilation at a party, but you’d be seriously missing out on one of the grooviest dance-parties-for-one this side of Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party”. The opening “Falling and Laughing”’s title and lyrics are so perfectly suited to this kind of duality you might actually fall down laughing, and the darkly danceable madness of “Simply Thrilled Honey” is infectious enough to throw the aging members of New Order into spastic fits.
If the Orange Juice were indie-rock’s wet nurse, then this is the blanket used to wrap its squirming pink body.
