Like previously featured TheDailyDisc artist The Shop Assistants, The Pastels made seriously primitive (and even more seriously lovelorn) rock and roll. Some additional similarities include: a highly deliberate technically-skilled-musicianship-as-an-afterthought approach to recording, a vocal monotony as endearing as it is potentially off-putting, and, above all, an undying devotion to a D.I.Y. ethic in absolutely everything. This first Pastels full-length, Up for a bit with the Pastels, is pathological Glaswegian indie rock, splendidly out of place forever.
